Hello all !
We want to ask some information if is possible, regarding your dedicated server that you use for Lock-On Flaming Cliffs.
Our community is taking in consideration the idea to rent a dedicated server, or to buy that one, therefore hoped of being able to ask some specs from you that already use them.
We have tried to load the simulator on a virtual machine but we had problems of the minimums requirements demands, think about limit’s of the graphic cards.
We haven't resolved the problem, also using another program that emulates the graphics memory cards.
Here in Italy it has been advised to buy a machine with specific characteristics adapted to use such simulator but we didn’t know how much can be convenient for us.
How do you have resolved these problems?
I have read in your web page menu, the characteristics of your server rack, and i see that you have chosen to put it into a web-farm house and mount it with specific purposely characteristics for the game. I’m in wrong?
In order to approach the server on-line do you used the command line or some scripts and an administration panel or used a software that emulates the virtual machine with mouse and keyboards?
If finally is it possible, how many do you pay for the year, or for a month, in order to maintain the server ?
I mean costs of band, maintenance and electrical current power.
If these information are classified could however have an idea or of the approximate figures also via and e-mail ?

We wait your clarifications

Thanks a lot in advance for the answers and for the attention..

Sorry for my bad English..

Hallo Michael,

How are you? :)

Our Lock ON Dedicated Game Server is nothing more than a ordinary gaming computer located in a data centre house with high bandwidth. As you've seen on our webpage, our server has a real graphic card and not only onboard-graphics. To maintain our server we use the remote desktop software VNC. You can get VNC on https://www.realvnc.com . RealVNC is a very powerful remotedesktop software which allows to manage a server even in 3D mode. All the other remotedesktop softwares I know are limited to 2D-use only, but realVNC also works in 3D application. So to speak the administration of the server is like you were sitting in front of it. The server runs under Win2000 and we don't use any special command line features, since Lock ON doesn't really support them.

When renting such a server you have to expect about 50€ to 100€ per month. But first, I suggest you to contact your provider and ask them whether it's possible to rent servers with 3D-cards. :) Because otherwise you probably have to rent a whole Colocation in order to bring there and set up a computer of your own.

Kind Regards,
JaboG32_Chrissi

Ciao Michael, welcome to our forums!

Your English is just great and very well understandable and of course we like to help you!
We already put all the information on how we built and configured our server up online in a .pdf for download:

https://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.ph ... 7&file=733

Unfortunately the text is written in German, but it is quite plain and some translation tool like Babblefish should
produce some understandable results in English.

Some core facts:
- We rent the server from a small webhosting company
- It is located at a university computer central
- We had an additional LockOn-capable graphics card installed
- We use the RealVNC Remote-Desktop-Tool to access the server

For all information about payment and costs, please inquire through e-mail from chrissi@virtual-jabog32.de

I wish you success for your project, it would be great to see another Dedicated Game Server run by a traditional LockOn squad online in Hyperlobby!
